Mothers and Fathers get their own special day – now there is a day for kids too! National Children’s Day is being held on Sunday 1 March to celebrate, nurture and treasure our young ones.

Taupo District Council and Taupo Venues in conjunction with Sport Waikato and local community groups are holding Taupo Children’s Day, emphasising the key theme of the national campaign – listening and talking. The messages that organisers want to get across to families include giving time, praise and encouragement, listening and talking, providing love and affection and introducing new experiences.

The event is being held at the Taupo Events Centre from 2 – 4pm and will include face painting, a sausage sizzle, games, sports activities, music, free rock wall and bouncy castle and more! Competition winners will be announced and many prizes will be up for grabs including passes to the Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus Tribute Show. Harold from the Life Education Trust will be there alongside Eddie the Taniwha from Taupo Library. Everyone is welcome and entry is FREE.

The Ironkidz Triathlon, for 8-15 year olds, is on the same day but will be held earlier in the morning allowing kids to be a part of both events.

For those living in Turangi, an event is being held at the Genesis Energy Aquatic Centre and families can get in for half price.

If your community group or organisation would like to be involved with Children’s Day by having a display or activity during the event, please contact Jenny Steadman on 07 376 0606 or email jsteadman@taupo.govt.nz.
