Following official due process, a series of four tree removals and four tree plantings will take place in Hinemoa Park from next week. The tree work was a recommendation which came out of last year's Independent Review of the Hamilton 400 and aims to improve visibility at critical areas on the circuit while ensuring the tree removal is mitigated with new plantings.

A limited notified resource consent amendment and community consultation was undertaken for the removal of the four trees. All parties who noted their interest in tree removal issues, at the time that the resource consent for the Hamilton 400 V8 Supercars event was granted, were notified and given the opportunity to make a submission.

Two submissions were received, one in support and one in opposition. No appeals were received following the independent RMA Commissioner's ruling that the trees could be removed.

At the end of the V8 Supercars event series, four replacement Pin Oaks will be planted in the immediate vicinity of the four trees being removed. The Pin Oaks will be planted as a mitigation measure and are expected to grow up to 4.5 metres in Hinemoa Park.
