Sign up to take part in the world’s fastest growing environmental event and go into the draw to win a brand new Toyota Prius.

Earth Hour 2009 is being held on 28 March from 8.30 – 9.30pm and aims to reach 1 billion people in 1,000 cities. This year Taupo is one of almost 40 cities or towns around New Zealand who have committed to Earth Hour 2009 by turning of lights and appliances for 1 hour to support action on climate change.

Councillor Kathryn Uvhagen says “Switching off is a simple action that can make a difference. Come on Taupo, let’s join the rest of the world and show that we care about the future of this planet.”

Earth Hour is a global call to action for every individual, business and community to stand up, take responsibility and get involved with working towards a sustainable future. Taupo District Council is supporting Earth Hour 2009 and will be turning off as many lights and appliances as possible throughout Council owned facilities.
