NZ team hopeful for middle distance at JWOC
Following on from a succesful start to the JWOC week the NZ team will be looking to do well and get as many people qualified for the A-final as possible in tomorrows qualifying races.
The format for the qualification races features three seperate heats, which competitors not knowing which heat they are in. Each country can only have a maximum of two competitors in each heat. The top 20 places from each heat qualify for the A-final, with the remainder in the B-final. In previous years a C-final was required due to numbers but this year with the event being held in Australia the numbers have declined and this is not required.
With the depleted field sizes due to cost and travel constraints for many countries, the NZ team will be heavily favoured to do better in qualifying than it has historically done so. In the past five years only five different people have qualified for the A-final for the middle distance. The middle distance is the only race which does not feature a straight final at Junior Worlds level, compared to all races requiring qualification at the World Championship level.
Live results and commentry will once again feature on the offical JWOC website which can be found at: http://jwoc2007.orienteering.asn.au/
Start times for the NZ team are (in local Australian time):
Women:
10:15 Kate Rea
10:15 Kate Morrison
10:29 Lizzie Ingham
10:31 Tineke Berthelsen
11:01 Nicola Peat
