Residents all set for Second-hand Sunday
Second-hand Sunday is a community recycling event where Whangarei households can give away unwanted items at their gate. It is co-ordinated by Whangarei District Council and promotes reducing the amount of waste disposed of at landfills.
Council spokesperson Sheryl Mai says there has been a great response from local residents.
"Households all over Whangarei are taking part. It’s a great opportunity to give away things that you no longer use, rather than pay to take it to landfill. This is yet another way to recycle."
Cr Mai has taken part in previous Second-Hand Sunday events, but she still has lots of things that she will be putting out at her gate to give away.
"It’s amazing how much you can accumulate. There are things in my garage that I don’t use anymore, so I’d love to give them away to someone who will use them."
All participating addresses are now listed on the WDC website, and will be printed in the Whangarei Leader on Tuesday 24 March.
