WELLINGTON

Greater Wellington Regional Council has completed its second staff engagement survey and the results show steady progress.

Greater Wellington is participating in a five-year staff engagement programme run by the Gallup Organisation. The international programme features a simple annual survey, underpinned by robust quantitative data. Gallup’s recognition of the value of teams and how their “success” contributes to overall organisational success is an important component of the Gallup’s methodology.

Greater Wellington’s results from its second survey, carried out in late 2008, are:
Gallup Q12 Grand Mean: 3.86
Satisfaction Mean: 3.85
Leadership Mean: 3.05
Recommend Greater Wellington as a great place to work Mean: 3.91

Jane Bradbury, Divisional Manager of Greater Wellington’s Corporate Services Division, said score changes of 0.2 were regarded as significant. “We've made significant progress on most of the main scores after only one year into the programme, so we're delighted."

After each survey individual teams discuss their results and identify the areas they want to work on by developing an action plan.

“Our experience at Greater Wellington is that the action plans seem to be a crucial factor in improving staff engagement levels.”
