Last week Taupo District Councillors listened to members of the community provide feedback on the draft ten year plan ‘Towards 2019’.

Almost 70 people had asked to make a presentation to Council as part of their submission to the draft plan. Councillors heard a majority of the submitters in Taupo and also made a trip to Turangi to hear submitters there.

Mayor Rick Cooper said listening to people talk to their submissions was really useful as it provided the Councillors with extra perspective and will help with decision making. “It is very important to my fellow Councillors and I that we adopt a final plan that is representative of what this community wants for the future of the Taupo district. Special thanks to everyone who took the time this week to come and present to us,” he said.

Council will be making decisions on changes to the draft plan based on both the hearings and submissions late in April, with the final ten year plan adopted in June 2009.

Other projects that were out for submission during this time, including the Lake Taupo Erosion and Flood Strategy and the Landscape and Natural Values Plan Change, which will be heard later this year.
