Today’s announcement that the Victoria Park project is to be accelerated by a year is exactly the news Auckland needs and wants to hear, said Auckland Business Forum chairman Michael Barnett.

“It will ensure job continuity for many, help address a big bottleneck in Auckland’s daily transport woes, and give the confidence to the construction industry and its suppliers going forward.”

With the Newmarket Viaduct project underway at the south end of Spaghetti Junction and Victoria Park now confirmed for an earlier start at the northern end, we can see light at the end of the tunnel in the daily congestion that clogs this critical part of Auckland’s transport network.

Having Victoria Park underway, means there is just one major gap left to start closing in Auckland’s key network, the Waterview Connection to complete the Western Ring Route.

“In the short time Transport Minister Steven Joyce has been at his post, he has made it very clear that moving Auckland into the fast lane by providing first-class infrastructure is a top priority. We can be very confident that this resolve will be maintained,” said Mr Barnett
