Maori artwork to be showcased at Dinsdale Library
A 'significant piece of Maori artwork' will be installed at Dinsdale Library this month. The artwork, which will be installed on the ceiling alcove of the library, has been designed by artist James Webster and includes a suspended Waka Huia (treasure chest), perspex designed window inserts and kowhaiwhai patterning.
Hamilton City Libraries Acting Director Robyn Pengelly said the artwork installation is an exciting project for both the facility and the local community.
"Dinsdale Community Library is the first of Hamilton City Libraries' six sites to receive a significant piece of Maori artwork … The Dinsdale area has a strong Maori community, so it is fitting that this library has been chosen to receive this art piece," she said.
Dinsdale Community Library will be closed over Easter weekend while the new artwork is being installed. The closure will run from Good Friday [10 April] until Easter Monday [13 April], with the library resuming normal business hours on Tuesday, 14 April.
Hamilton City Libraries' five other libraries (Central Library, Chartwell Library, Glenview Library, Hillcrest Library and St Andrews Library) will also close for the Easter public holidays, however will be open for business as usual on Saturday, 11 April – during which time Dinsdale Library users will be encouraged to utilise these alternative facilities.
An official blessing of the artwork will take place later this month.
