The Stratford District Library wants YOU to get creative! To celebrate the New Zealand Post Book Awards, the Library is holding a writing competition.

Inspired by the NZ Book Awards finalist “Juicy Writing” by Brigid Lowry, the writing competition is open to students in the categories Years 7-8, Years 9-10, and Years 11-13.

“The competition is being run by the Library in association with the Stratford Writers’ Group and Stratford District Youth Council,” says Assistant Librarian Ash Rowland. “Writers can enter the open poetry category, or respond to the suggested essay or humourous fiction starting points.”

Ash says “Industrial Chemistry Services are offering cash prizes for winners of each category. As Brigid Lowry says, ‘being a writer is good because you get paid to make stuff up’.”

“We’re hoping Stratford young people will really put in the effort,” Ash says.

Entry forms can be collected from the Stratford Library. Entries close Friday 22 May 2009 and entries are limited to one per person.
