Five proved a lucky number for HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX yesterday with the latest film releasing to record figures on its opening day.

The film had the biggest opening day of any of the Harry Potter instalments to date in New Zealand.

Sold out sessions in movie theatres all over New Zealand, lead HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX to the fifth biggest opening day in New Zealand’s Box Office history, replacing its predecessor HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE.

“We are overwhelmed with the level of excitement and anticipation there has been to this film” said Lisa Hubbard, General Manager of Roadshow Film Distributors, (Warner Bros’ agent in NZ) today.

New Zealand’s top five openings at the box office are THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy in the top 3 spots (RETURN OF THE KING, THE TWO TOWERS and FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING respectively) with MATRIX: RELOADED taking the fourth position. HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX now occupies fifth position.
