HAMILTON

The upcoming 2009 Hamilton 400 V8 Supercars Street Race is just a few days away. Tonight at midnight the roads that form the race circuit will be closed to traffic so that the last of the concrete safety barrier blocks can be put in place. Racing will take place only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The traffic management plan for the event is very similar to last year. It will be operative over the inclusive event period from:

12pm midnight Wednesday 15 April

to

6am Monday 20 April 2009.

Vehicle access to closed roads and properties lining the circuit will be restored by 6am Monday morning.

Where at all possible Council and the event organiser are trying to ensure that access around the event is as normal as possible.

The exception to this is Claudelands Road and bridge, which at peak periods will be prioritised for buses only. When the bus peak finishes, traffic control will open the road and bridge for all traffic to use.

The event is readily accessible on foot and cycle racks are provided for people who wish to use an alternative means of getting to the event.

City buses will operate free of charge over the event weekend – Friday 17 to Sunday 19 April. The bus frequency will be increased on Saturday and Sunday during the expected peak times in the morning (7.30-9.30am) and afternoon (4.30-6.30pm), to half hourly.

Please note:

Sunday – only key Sunday bus routes will be serviced as per current schedule.

In addition the newly commenced direct services and Night Rider service will function as normal.
