Tricky Intersection Soon a Thing of the Past
Work will begin very soon on changing the layout of one of New Plymouth’s most contentious intersections.
Over nearly two months the Frankley/Brois/Waimea intersection will change from having two give-ways, to having a roundabout with traffic thresholds on all four approaches.
“Its challenging topography at this site – as motorists already know – and the thresholds will slow down approaching traffic so they can use the roundabout safely,” says Manager Roading Assets Max Aves.
The road works will begin early next month, and are due for completion by the end of June.
At this point it isn’t known if the intersection will be closed at any stage of the construction, but some detours are likely and would change as the work progresses, says Mr Aves.
“Even if we don’t have a road closure, it would be wise for drivers to consider alternative routes during the construction as great care would be required at the site while the new intersection layout takes shape,” he says.
“Going the long way round for the next couple of months could be the wiser choice.”
