The National Selectors today announced the eighteen players who have been invited to trial for a place in the NZU21team to play at the 2009 World Youth Championships. The NZU21 team trials will take place in Wellington on May 12-13.

The trialists have been finalised after an 18 month build up that saw the best young players in New Zealand taking the opportunity to secure a place in the team trials. The players come from a range of experience levels including eight players who are currently competing in the ANZ Championship.

Following the trials NZU21 coach Yvette McCausland-Durie will name a team of twelve to represent NZ in the 2009 World Youth Championships to be held between 11-20 August in the Cook Islands.

McCausland-Durie is excited about the depth of talent coming through at this level and the trials will give selectors an opportunity to see these players in a variety of positions and combinations.

“The trials will undoubtedly be highly competitive and all players will be making the most of the opportunity to impress selectors and be part of a New Zealand Under 21 Team aiming to win back to back World Youth titles.” McCausland-Durie said.

New Zealand won gold at the previous Netball World Youth Championships in 2005.
