The Green Party acknowledges the sad passing of John Bollard, Principal Judge of the Environment Court since 2003.

“The Green Party extends its condolences to Judge Bollard’s family,” said Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons.

“Judge Bollard’s enormous experience and knowledge of the Resource Management Act and its case law will be sorely missed at this time when significant change to the Act is being proposed.

“I greatly appreciated Judge Bollard’s wisdom during earlier reforms of the Resource Management Act, when I was chairing the Local Government and Environment Select Committee.”

Ms Fitzsimons has known Judge Bollard for over 30 years.

Judge Bollard presided over many landmark Environment Court cases, including rejecting a major sawmill in the Coromandel in 2005, and criticising a Hawke's Bay windfarm applicant’s lack of consultation with iwi earlier this year.

Judge Bollard was ill with cancer and passed away yesterday.
