The Queenstown Lakes District Council and the Board of Lakes Leisure Limited today announced two changes in the membership of the company’s board, QLDC chief executive officer Duncan Field said.

“The current chair of the board, Jane Taylor has requested that she be able to step down from the chair position to allow more time to dedicate to other commercial and personal interests,” Mr Field said.

The Council had accepted Mrs Taylor’s decision with much regret.

“Jane has been an exceptional inaugural chair of the company and the Council, as shareholder, is very pleased that she will be able to remain as a director,” he said.

Fellow director Mike Saunders would step into the chair role.

“Jane has been an excellent chair and showed considerable skill in bringing the board and staff together in a coherent team. This was a challenging time as the scope of the new company has grown, and during that period the company opened the new Alpine Aqualand,” Mr Saunders said

He was looking forward to the new challenge of chairman.

Following decisions made by the Council at its meeting on 28 August, to reduce the size of the boards of its companies, Lakes Leisure director Richard Beddie, had volunteered to resign as an amicable solution.

“We have accepted Richard’s resignation, again with regret, he has been a very valuable contributor to the board, and has had a significant role in shaping the future of recreation in this district,” Mr Field said.
