CHRISTCHURCH

Media statement on behalf of Bob Parker Mayor of Christchurch following the meeting regarding the receivership of Lane Walker Rudkin.

Today’s meeting involved the receivers of Lane Walker Rudkin, the National Distribution Union representing the company’s workers and local politicians, the Hon Kate Wilkinson Minister of Labour and Ruth Dyson MP for Port Hills. In addition the business community was represented by the NZ Manufacturers and Exporters Association Chief Executive John Walley and Canterbury Development Corporation Chief Executive Bill Luff. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise was also represented. It was hosted by the Mayor of Christchurch Bob Parker.

The situation is very serious, however there is a lot of goodwill between the parties to find a way forward. There is deep and genuine concern for the workers affected by the current situation.

All avenues are being explored by the receivers and the union to find a satisfactory outcome for all parties.

Any further comment should come from the receivers and I expect them to make a statement in the next few days.
