Intersections: its your call

“Spin. Don't Spin. Intersections. It's your call.” This is the slogan behind Taupo District Council's new road safety campaign reminding drivers to take extra care at Taupo’s worst intersections.

The campaign slogan was created to align with New Zealand Transport Agency's current television campaign which features the grim reaper and a spinning wheel situated alongside busy intersections.

The intersections which are the key focus of the local campaign include three junctions well known for crashes: Heu Heu and Titiraupenga, Tamamutu and Titiraupenga, and Tamamutu and Kaimanawa. Also included in this year’s campaign is the intersection of Poihipi Road and State Highway 1 which has proved to be another high risk location.

Drivers are being urged to take another look before making the correct manoeuvre, stop at stop signs, and to be aware of the extra dangers involved in driving while stressed or running late.

New Zealand Transport Agency's spinning wheel is scheduled to spend six days in Taupo during mid-May and it is hoped this will be a highly visual reminder for motorists of intersection dangers.
