Preferred contractor announced for proposed Claudelands Arena

Following an extensive tender and vendor proposal evaluation process, Foster Construction Ltd has been nominated as the preferred contractor for the proposed Claudelands Arena build.

Event facilities manager Mark Christie says that early engagement with the preferred supplier allows for the final detailed designs to be worked through extensively in terms of construction process.

“Early appointment of a preferred supplier means that when Council comes to make its final decision regarding the Arena project, they can be assured that plans for the design and build processes have been completely aligned and subsequently intergrated timings and costing have been scrutinised to the highest possible level of detail.

“The arena contract will not be finalised until after the LTCCP deliberations are complete, and Council makes its final decision on the future of Claudelands development” said Mr Christie.

If approved, construction on the arena will commence in July 2009 and will be followed by demolition of the west wing of the existing Events Centre building.
