Some innovative ideas for a new look Taupo CBD will be on display at the Great Lake Centre next week for the community to review and provide feedback.

Three open days are being held in the foyer of the Great Lake Centre for anyone in the community to come along and view a range of plans and options that are being proposed as part of Council’s Commercial and Industrial Structure Plan. Dates and times are as follows:
Thursday 21 May: 4.00pm – 7.00pm
Friday 22 May: 10.00am – 2.00pm
Saturday 23 May: 10.00am – 2.00pm

The ideas for creating a vibrant town centre include options for the domain and civic heart, a waterfront piazza, laneways and service lanes, parking and roading, future commercial and industrial development and redesigning and re-zoning areas around the East Taupo Arterial.

Mayor Rick Cooper says it’s about creating a vibrant and appealing heart for Taupo. “Come and see us at the open days and let us know if you think we are on track with our plans. We are really excited about what the future holds and look forward to receiving further direction from the community.”

Environmental Services Group Manager Gareth Green says Council will continue to offer opportunities for everyone to have their say throughout the process.

The ‘placemaking’ research that Gilbert Rochecouste and his team from Village Well carried out earlier in the year, and their concepts, have been incorporated into the options that will be on display next week.
