Franklin District Mayor Mark Ball is making a plea to residents in a bid to keep us all safe.

A recent spate of road signage damage has created a safety issue around the district.

Mark says, “I appeal to you all – if you see a road sign down or damaged, please call us immediately. We rely on information from the public to advise us on these important safety issues. Once we know a road sign is down, we act with urgency to install either temporary or permanent signage,” Mark says.

A combination of storms, accidents, theft and pure vandalism has seen a large number of signs damaged or removed recently.

“Lately there have been important signs such as Stop and Give Way signs on the ground, and this can have huge safety ramifications. Imagine what could happen if a Stop sign isn’t reinstalled immediately?”

Franklin District Council spends $50,000 per year on new signage and $30,000 on replacing damaged or vandalised signs. If you have information on the individuals who are damaging or removing signage – please advise Council or the Police.

If residents also see other signage damage, such as road name signs, please contact Council on 237 1300 as soon as possible or email FDC_Info@franklin.govt.nz.
