Record number of submitters heard for draft Plan
More than 80 members of the public spoke at the draft Franklin District Council Community Plan 2009-19 hearings this week, the most ever heard by Council.
Held over a four day period, Councillors heard submissions from the public on a range of topics, from roading and pensioner housing to wastewater and parks and reserves.
Franklin District Mayor Mark Ball says it was heartening to see so many people involved in the consultation process this year.
“More people than ever before have got involved in the Plan this year. It was apparent that many rallied together with a coordinated approach for mass submissions on topics relating to their immediate community. They have then nominated spokespeople to present their views at the hearings. It’s great to see community spirit alive and well in Franklin. I think this is especially true this year, with the Super City threat so real.”
Council will deliberate next week and decide on any changes that may need to be made to the draft Plan as a result of submissions, with the intention to adopt the plan at the Council meeting on 25 June. At that point, the rates for the next financial year will be set.
