Something for all the family at NZFSAs Fieldays stand
Visitors to this year’s Mystery Creek Fieldays will be asked to help solve food safety crimes at the New Zealand Food Safety Authority’s (NZFSA) stand.
NZFSA is taking this year’s theme ‘My Land, Our Environment’ into the home with the FBI (foodborne illness) Case File.
Our stand will be built as a crime scene, with a kitchen sink, fridge and pantry. The ‘case files’ will provide children with clues about what to look for, such as handprints. The clues revolve around kitchen hygiene and the 4Cs of food safety (clean, cook, cover, chill).
Once through the crime scene, they can fill out a competition form identifying who was guilty or not guilty of the crimes – and go into the draw to win a digital camera.
While children are busy being food safety sleuths, parents can learn more about NZFSA’s role in protecting consumers at home and overseas from food safety risks and ensuring the food produced by our agricultural and farming industries meets overseas requirements. They can also keep an eye on the how the kids are doing because the UV-light bathed kitchen can be seen on the big TV mounted on the wall outside.
Brochures, leaflets, handouts and fact sheets will be available on subjects of interest to consumers of all ages, and our technical experts will be on hand to answer food safety concerns, as well as questions about food production, exports and imports.
The Minister for Food Safety Kate Wilkinson will also be stopping by NZFSA’s stand between 1.30pm and 2.15pm on Wednesday.
NZFSA is committed to protecting consumers of New Zealand food – wherever they may be. Find out how by visiting our stand (PD60 in the Mystery Creek Pavilion) at the National Fieldays, Mystery Creek, Hamilton from 10-13 June.
