More than 800 submissions have been made by residents and ratepayers to the Council’s draft Long Term Council Community Plan 2009-19 following the month long public consultation period which closed on Monday 8 June. The next phase will see the Mayor and Councillors meeting to listen to those who want to speak to their submissions, at a series of meetings over 4 days (17-19, 22 June).

“Community input through the submission process is a vital part of ensuring that our ten year plan is going in the right direction” says Mayor Holmes. “While we know we won’t be able to ‘please all of the people, all of the time,” we will certainly make sure that the full mix of community views are carefully considered before we make any decisions.”

The Council is still analysing the submission, but a number of key issues identified in the draft LTCCP 2009-19 have received good response from the community.

These include the proposed sale of pensioner housing units, introduction of water metering and quarterly billing, Harbour Fund and changes to the rating system, rubbish collection and disposal and the Arts and Culture Centre project.
