Community takes action in Bader
The Bader community are set to take matters into their own hands this weekend (13-14 June) as they stage a community clean up in partnership with Hamilton City Council, Te Whare Kokonga, Housing New Zealand, New Zealand Police and Work and Income.
Beautifying Bader 2009 is the fourth community clean-up to be to be staged in the last 18 months as part of Council's community development work.
Neighbourhood advisor Andy Mannering says, "we know from experience that lower community pride is closely linked with social issues and higher crime rates. Community working bees like this are a real opportunity for neighbourhoods to come together, build pride in their streets and even get to know each other along the way".
"We are aware though that it can be a massive hassle to get rid of things around the property, maybe through inactive landlords or not having the resources or time to transport things to the dump. With Beautifying Bader we purely want to assist people to clean up and to help them in their homes."
All Bader residents are encouraged join in on the day and are free to make use of the resources provided. Interested volunteers are invited to meet at 10am at Te Whare Kokonga (corner of Pine and Bader Streets). A community celebration will then be held at 12pm at the old Richmond Park School.
A range of resources will be provided to assist the community with the clean up:
- Large skip bins placed on streets throughout the neighbourhood. The bins will be available throughout the weekend until they are collected on Monday 15 June
- Large recycling bins stationed at Richmond Park School on Bader Street
- A mobile crew and trailer available to relocate heavy items and stationed at Richmond Park School on Bader Street
