Queenstown Town Centre
The Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking feedback on a draft strategy that will guide the long term planning of the Queenstown township, QLDC strategy committee chairwoman Gillian MacLeod said.
“This is a critical strategy with the intention of creating a forward looking document that covers a number of key issues in the future planning and development of Queenstown’s central business district,” Cr MacLeod said.
Issues discussed in the strategy included:
- Protecting what makes the town centre special.
- Maintaining and encourage diversity in the town centre.
- Keeping the centre relevant and enjoyable to the local community.
- Reducing the dominance of vehicles without compromising access.
- Future expansion of the town centre.
“There are some hugely significant issues being tackled by the strategy and I urge residents and business people to carefully read the strategy and give us feedback,” Cr MacLeod said.
A ‘drop-in’ session would be held at the Council Chambers on Gorge Road on Wednesday June 24 from 3-7pm
“This is an informal opportunity to seek some clarity around what is being proposed, discuss the implications and ask any questions. Anyone can come along at anytime during the four hour session and spend as long as they like,” Cr MacLeod said.
Feedback on the draft strategy needed to be with the Council by 17 July. Copies of the strategy were available at the Council office or on the Council website www.qldc.govt.nz
