Nominations Open for the 2009 Waitaki Citizens Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 Waitaki District Council Citizens’ Awards.

This will be the 13th year of the awards, which are presented to members of our community who have made a significant contribution to the well-being of the Waitaki District and its citizens.

There are a great many people who provide long and unselfish service to many parts of the community, and yet these people are often unknown outside the areas to which they have given such unstinting service. The awards are a way for the Waitaki District Council to say “thank you” on behalf of everyone in our community.

The 2009/19 Waitaki District's Community Plan states that "We have strong, well supported community groups and recognise and value our volunteers". This statement supports the purpose of these awards.

A District Council Selection Committee to consider the nominations will involve the Mayor, four Councillors, Chairman of the Waihemo Community Board and Chairman of the Ahuriri Community Board, with the presentation of the awards being made at a special ceremony in November.

Nominations close on Friday, 7 August at 5.00pm.
