Dobson was joined by Jonny McKee, Stephen Lett and Aaron Jackson over the first half of the race, splashing through extensive surface water. Heading into the final circuit of 2500m, Dobson was locked into a three way battle with Lett and McKee.

"It is a pretty good course, I live close to the course and ran around it during the week when it was not muddy and it is pretty fast," said Dobson.
