New Wind Farm Proposed In Tararua
The council has received an application for a wind farm extension in the Tararua district.
New Zealand Windfarms Ltd is proposing a 56 turbine extension of its Te Rere Hau wind farm on the eastern side of the Tararua Ranges, the council’s manager environmental services Mike Brown has confirmed.
The development is located across approximately 300 hectares to connect with the company’s consented 97 turbine wind farm on the Palmerston North side of the range.
The two blade, 47m high turbines would generate enough energy for around 12,000 average homes for both the region and the wider New Zealand population.
Mr Brown said the application had been lodged jointly with the Tararua District and Horizons Regional Councils.
