Napier award-winning artist Marie Kjestrup Evans, whose paintings have probably been viewed by Tiger Woods, will be one of the main drawcards at Auckland’s big Original Art Sale in Manukau later this month.

Kjestrup Evans’ paintings are held in private collections around the world including the home of Tiger Woods’ caddy Steve Williams and his wife Kirsty, who have several of her paintings.

Original Art Sale director Richard Jeffrey said Kjestrup Evans is in her third year of the annual event which has attracted 380 artists and more than 1200 works. Proceeds from the June 26-28 art show will go to Auckland’s Kidz First Children’s Hospital.

``Marie has been entering the Art Sale for the past 3 years and has proved to be very popular artists with our diverse audience base as she normally sells well over half her works. Her style is contemporary, fresh and has appeal from the novice collector through to the more established collector.” director of the Original Art Sale, Richard Jeffrey, said today.

Kjestrup Evans said her style and personality was reflected in vibrant, distinctive, bold, expressive works.

``Painting is a spiritual process, it is all consuming. Expressing your thoughts and feelings about a subject onto canvas in a manner you are happy with. Each painting is like a diary, reflecting the happenings in your life at the time.

``I am one of twelve children and grew up in small farming community to the east of Masterton. I trained as a nurse in the 1970s but gradually my interest in painting grew stronger. I have no formal training as an artist and feel this is to my advantage as it has enable me to experiment , have fun and develop my own distinctive style.’’

Kjestrup Evans established her own workshop/gallery in Ahuriri, Napier six years ago; has exhibited in Auckland, Wellington, Taranaki, Wairarapa and the Hawke’s Bay and has exhibited with the NZ Academy of fine arts on a regular basis. One of her works featured on the cover of the Hawke’s Bay white pages phone book.

Her 12 paintings accepted for the Original Art Show in Auckland have special musical, marina and lifestyle themes.
