New Operators for Pukekura Park Tea House
From early next month a new style of dining will be on offer from Pukekura Park’s Tea House.
Taking the name Tea House on the Lake, the iconic facility will be run by Peter and Angie Orsborn, proprietors of the popular Snickerdoodles in Oakura.
“Tea House on the Lake is a unique destination and we want to operate it in a way that enhances people’s experience in Pukekura Park,” says Angie Orsborn.
“The park attracts people aged from infancy to elderly and from many cultural backgrounds, so we intend to meet their varied tastes and dietary requirements within the wonderful ambience of the Tea House.
“We have just had the joy of introducing the fourth generation of our family to this wonderful jewel of a park in the centre of the city, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to be involved in an integral part of the park experience.”
The current operator of the Tea House, Eurest, has exited the lease as the company is concentrating on its events catering services.
From this Sunday (28 June) the Tea House will be closed for six days during the changeover between operators. Tea House on the Lake will open to the public on Saturday 4 July.
Manager Parks Mark Bruhn says Peter and Angie bring with them a wealth of food industry experience, having previously operated a café and conference centre in Waitakere City.
“They intend to bring a personal touch and great attention to detail to Tea House on the Lake, which will fit beautifully with the period of the building,” says Mr Bruhn.
As well as building a clientele among park visitors and city workers, Peter and Angie will make the Tea House available for functions and family events, and will offer specials such as high tea and ‘Platters in the Park’.
The Tea House was built in 1931 from funds provided by Mayor and Mayoress Charles and Mary Burgess in celebration of their golden wedding.
