Intersection Changes Go Live This Thursday
The SH45 Morley Street/Devon Street West lights phasing change will go live this Thursday (25 June).
Weather permitting, the new controller equipment on Morley St will be installed on Thursday and be ready for drivers to use from about 11am. Prior to this the traffic signals will be switched off for two hours to permit the upgrade.
Drivers will need to take particular care at this intersection during the two hours the traffic signals are down, and give way to all traffic on their right, says New Zealand Transport Agency State Highway Manager Errol Christiansen.
A pointsman will be on standby in case one is needed during this period.
“With the intersection largely completed, the public will notice significant differences in the way the intersection operates,” says Mr Christiansen.
“We ask everyone – drivers, cyclists and pedestrians – to be particularly observant when they use this intersection and take extra care while everyone gets used to the new layout.”
The aim of the redesign is to improve the safety and traffic of drivers.
The changes to this intersection will see two separate light phases on Morley Street: One for traffic on the northern section and one for traffic on the southern section.
The upgraded traffic signals will be better able to adapt to the higher traffic flows on State Highway 45.
