Andrea Miller selected for the World Championships

New Zealand 100m hurdles record holder Andrea Miller of Otago has been selected for the World Athletic Championships in Berlin in August.

The 27 year old broke her own national record two weeks ago in Geneva with a performance of 13.10s.
This was under the B standard set for selection and Miller has been approved to compete for New Zealand as a development athlete.

Miller's next race in her build up for the World University Games in Belgrade in two weeks time and for Berlin is in Celle Ligure Italy on Tuesday.

NELSON
New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships
Saxton Field, Nelson
Runners up last year champions this year, Aaron Pulford of Hauraki Plains and Olivia Burne of Palmerston North collected the senior secondary schools cross country titles at Saxton Field Nelson on Saturday afternoon.
Raced in perfect conditions on a firm fast course Pulford was in the leading group from the start of the senior boys 6km before hitting out on his own mid -way through the event to win comfortably in 18m 36s. Mohamed Ali of Fairfield College in Hamilton, second in the junior boys last year, worked his way through from 10th early on to claim second in 18m 52s. Scott Russell from Botany Downs in Auckland was third in 19m 3s.
Olivia Burne of Palmerston North had a great battle with Nicki McFadzien of Villa Maria in the senior girls 4km. Burne eventually broke clear with 800m to go to win by three seconds in 13m 44s. McFadzien was third to Burne's second placing last year. In 2007 Burne won the senior girls title with McFadzien second.
Auckland Grammar School triumphed in the senior boys teams race while St Hildas won both the three person and six person teams races in the girls.
Margot Gibson of St Margaret's College Christchurch made it three years in a row in the junior girls 3km. In 2006 she was second in the year nine 3km.

WHANGAREI
Northland Cross Country Championships
Katherine Anton won the senior women's title run over a hilly 5km course at Barge Park Maunu Whangarei on Saturday. Anton recorded 19m 57s to beat Ady Ngawati by 16 seconds. Amy Burke was third. Leigh Ruddock, Ady Ngawati's sister, won the master women's title in 21m 7s. Ian Calder (52) won the combined masters and senior men 7.5km outright in 28m 2s. Steve O'Neill in second in 29m 22s won the senior title. Kim Jepsen was second and Jason Trass third. Dylan French won the M19 title in 19m 20s for the 5km and Eryn Lovell the W19 5km in 22m 48s.

NORTH HARBOUR
Winter Series
Jessica Charlesworth won the 4kg hammer with a throw of 52.54m on Saturday. Julia Ratcliffe was out to 52.00m and Millie McNie 44.93m. Mark Cummings cleared 46.19m with the 7.26kg hammer. Damian Smuts recorded 15.17m with the 7.26kg shot while Jacko Gill achieved a PB with the 5kg shot sending it out to 18.30m, just 8cm short of the New Zealand M16 record. Gill also recorded 58.96m with the 1kg discus. Nicolas Gerrard was over the bar at 1.90m in the high jump. Frazer Wickes won the 300m in 35.7s.

NELSON
Saxton Field
Alex Jordan in preparation for the World Youth Championships, ran a couple of events on the new Saxton Field all weather track Sunday week ago. He recorded a wind assisted 10.9s over 100m and 22.1s over 200m. The previous week he ran 300m in 34.5s.

CHRISTCHURCH
Anglican Block Relay - Spencer Park
New Brighton were the fastest team in the senior men's 5 x 5km relay with a total time of 1h 29m 11s on Saturday. University of Canterbury won the event on handicap. Fastest laps went to Simon Gannaway 17m 3s, Nick Burrow 17m 8s and Mark Watson 17m 29s. Kerry Faass was the fastest in the masters relay with a lap time of 16m 25s. Richard Bennett ran twice with times of 16m 35s and 16m 48s. North Canterbury were the fastest senior women's team with 1h 27m 3s for the 4 x 5km event. Ruth Love-Smith lap the fastest lap of 19m 3s, with Lara Phillips running 20m 0s and Julia Grant 20m 5s. Fiona Gilroy and Karen Muller were the fastest in the masters women both timed at 20m 55s. Scott McDonald was the fastest junior with 18m 33s.

GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND
New Zealand's three times triple sprint champion Monique Williams warmed up for the world university games in Serbia in two weeks time, and on to the world athletic championships in Berlin in August, in fine style on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Williams won the 60m in 7.58s (+0.0) and was second to Sally McLellan of Australia over 100m in 10.72s (+0.0). Andrea Koenen of Waitakere, who will compete at the university games, was fourth over 100m in 11.87s and second to McLellan over 200m in 23.83s (+0.0).
Jeffrey Thumath of Auckland, also on his way to the university games was third over 100m in 10.88s (+0.0) and fourth in the 200m in 21.99s (+0.2). Joseph Millar of Tauranga, who will be competing in the world youth championships in Italy early next month, was fourth over 60m in 7.15s (+1.3) and fifth in both the 100m in 10.98s and the 200m in 22.11s.
On Sunday Andrea Koenen won the 100m in 11.96s (-1.0) and the 200m in 23.69s (+0.3), breaking her own New Zealand W19 record of 23.77s set in winning the national W19 title in Wellington in March. Joseph Millar won the 100m in 11.11s (-1.4) and was third in the 200m in 22.16s won by Jeffrey Thumath in 21.65s (+0.0).

PEORIA, ILLINOIS
Kimberley Smith won the 36th annual Steamboat Classic 4 mile road race for the second year in a row on Saturday. Smith who ran 20m last year, recorded the third fastest time in the race's history of 19m 38s.

ITALY
Jonathan Wyatt won the Corsa a Monte Faudo mountain race over 24.9km rising 1149m in 1h 34m 17s. The event was held in Imperia, Liguria on 14 June.

SWITZERLAND
Jonathan Wyatt won the Neirivue Moleson 10.6km rising 1290m mountain race in Bulle in 58m 37s on Saturday. Wyatt holds the race record of 57m 48s set in 2006.

AUSTRIA
Jonathan Wyatt won the Mutters Berglauf 7.8km rising 850m mountain race in Bludenz in 36m 25s yesterday. Wyatt won last year in 36m 3s.

BELGIUM
David Ambler recorded 10.30s (+3.7) over 100m during the weekend.
