Pukekura Park’s water wheel will be lifted out of its site this afternoon for refurbishment.

The work will see the wheel’s drive shaft and bearings replaced.

“The drive shaft has been wearing out and making the wheel spin a bit wonky, which has made it noisy as it turns,” says Curator Pukekura Park Chris Connolly.

“The replacement parts will take a week to install and the water wheel will be up and running by Friday next week.”

All of the work will take place on-site.

This afternoon a crane will lift the water wheel onto two large sacks of bubble-wrap material, to hold the structure in place during the refurbishment.
