UDEN, NETHERLANDS - 27 June 2009
Nikki Hamblin qualified for selection to the world championships in Berlin in August after finishing second over 1500m in 4m 8.52s at the Mondo Keien Meeting in the Netherlands on Saturday.
Her coach Chris Pilone said it was a good result given that she had been sick prior to the race with a stomach bug.
The B standard set for selection to the world championships is 4m 9s.
Susan Kuijken of the Netherlands, the NCAA 1500m champion, won the race in 4m 5.86s.
Further good news came through during the week for Hamblin in that she has been granted New Zealand residency, enabling her to represent New Zealand.
At the same meeting David Ambler was seventh in the 100m in 10.56s (-0.9), Andrew Moore was fourth in the 400m in 47.10s and Cory Innes was sixth in 48.21s.

LENZERHEIDE, SWITZERLAND - 27 June 2009
Jonathan Wyatt won the Graubunden Marathon mountain race in Switzerland on Saturday. Wyatt covered the 42.2km rising 2682m and descending 402m in 3h 29m 8s. Michael Barz of Germany was second in 3h 49m 15s with Urs Jenzer of Switzerland third in 3h 49m 33s. Wyatt won the same race in 2006 in 3h 37m 00s and last year in 3h 30m 33s.

BEDFORD, GREAT BRITAIN - 27 June 2009
Jessica Charlesworth was second in the hammer with a personal best throw of 55.14m. At the same UK U23 championships Kerry Charlesworth was fifth in the pole vault with 3.85m.

GOLD COAST - 26 June 2009
Jeffrey Thumath warmed up for the world university games in Belgrade in early July with a double sprint victory on the Gold Coast on Friday. Thumath won the 100m in 10.80s and the 200m in 21.53s. Monique Williams, also selected for the university Games as well as the world championships, was third over 100m in 11.89s and won the 200m in 23.76s. Joseph Millar, en route to the world youth championships in Italy, won the 60m in 7.15s was second in the 100m in 11.00s and third in the 200m in 21.90s.

KLADNO, CZECH REPUBLIC - 23/24 June 2009.
Brent Newdick set a personal best decathlon score of 7849 points in finishing fourth in the TNT Fortuna Combined Events Meeting in Kladno Czech Republic.
This is a 12 point improvement on his national title total at Waitakere in early February.
In cold wet conditions the 24 year old was away to a great with a personal best 100m of 10.89s (+2.1). He followed this up on day one with a 7.32m long jump, 14.43m shot put, 1.97m high jump and 50.16s 400m. Day two results were, 110m hurdles 14.38s (+0.2), 42.82m discus throw, 4.50m pole vault, 54.79m javelin throw and a 4m 42.12s 1500m.
This is a second B qualifying performance for Newdick who has already been selected, as a developing athlete, to compete at the world championships in Berlin in August.
At the same meeting Sarah Cowley finished fifth in the heptathlon with a total of 5494 points. Her performances were 100m hurdles 14.27s (+0.4), high jump 1.73m, shot put 11.64m, 200m 25.66s (+0.6), long jump 5.90m, javelin throw 32.07m and 800m 2m 17.09s.

STRETFORD, GREAT BRITAIN - 23 June 2009
Jason Woolhouse finished second over 1500m in a personal best 3m 42.25s at the British Milers Club meeting in Stretford. And on 27 June Woolhouse ran 14m 13.23s for 5000m for ninth place.

CELLE LIGURE, ITALY - 23 June 2009
Andrea Miller won the 100m hurdles in 13.29s (-0.8) at the Arcobaleno AtleticaEuropa meeting in Italy.
At the same meeting Johan Smalberger was third in the javelin with a throw of 70.21m (66.44m, NT, 68.42m, 69.96m, 68.45m, 70.21m).

BILBAO, SPAIN - 20 June 2009
Nikki Hamblin ran a personal best 800m of 2m 2.11s in finishing second at the Atletismo Santutxu meeting in Bilbao Spain.
The race was won by Zulia Calatayud of Cuba, the 2005 world champion who has a PB of 2m 56.09s in 2002 and who was sixth at the 2000 Olympic Games and eighth at the 2004 Olympic Games as well as winner of the 2006 world cup 800m. Calatayud's time was 2m 1.82s.
For Hamblin this latest result was an improvement on her winning time of 2m 2.50s in Namur Belgium two weeks ago.

OUDENAARDE, BELGIUM - 20 June 2009
Richard Olsen won the 2000m in 5m 30.22s at the Ereprijs Rosine Wallez meeting in Oudenaarde Belgium.
Erin Montgomery was fourth in the women's 2000m in 6m 23.14s. David Ambler recorded 10.30s (+3.7) over 100m.

Tim Goodwin won the two day marathon of 42.2km, over three races of offroad 16km, road 5.1km and road 21.1km, in 2h 58m 4s from Rob Lieffering 3h 5m 42s and Richard Blogg 3h 14m 22s. Amy Burke won the women's marathon in 3h 21m 22s from Denise Limby 4h 0m 37s and Jane Sweeney 4h 5m 50s.

NORTH SHORE - 27 June 2009
Edwin Henshaw, back in New Zealand for three months from his base in Tulsa, was in top form at the annual North Harbour cross country race on Saturday.
The 2007 New Zealand cross country champion easily won the 4km event at the Long Bay Regional Park in 11m 41s to give his Calliope Club their first individual victory in 25 years.
Over the first 2km lap it was a three way battle between last year's winner Sam Dobson, Henshaw and Stephen Lett. With 1000m to go Henshaw upped the pace and went on to win by eight seconds over Dobson. Lett was third in 12m 2s.
Henshaw said that shortly after his 2007 national cross country title he broke his foot, which put him out of action for the rest of that year.
"I've been back into it for the past 18 months and I now work full time as a coach in Tulsa," said Henshaw.
The 23 year old will compete in the North Island championships in Taupo on Saturday as well as the Auckland and New Zealand championships before returning to the States.
Robbie Johnston won the battle in the masters, finishing in 12m 31s, five seconds ahead of Joel Martin.
Breeanna Potter, competing in the women's 19 division, won the combined senior, masters and W19 4km race. Danielle Trevis also W19 set a fast pace from the start. Heading into the second lap Potter had moved up on the heels of Trevis and with a strong finish held off Trevis by five seconds to win in 13m 33s. Chanel Williamson won the senior women's grade in 14m 4s from Hannah Lawrence and Carmel Hanly. Kristine Reid was the best of the masters in 15m 4s.
James Hand won the men 19 4km in 12m 4s.

NORTH SHORE - 28 June 2009
Winter Series
In atrocious conditions, heavy rain, head winds and cool temperatures Carl Van der Speck won the 100m in 11.10s (-4.0) from James Dolphin 11.17s and Matt Brown 11.15s. Dolphin won the 200m in 21.62s (-3.6) from Brown 21.69s and Van der Speck 21.97s. These were the only events held, all other events were cancelled because of the weather.

WELLINGTON - 28 June 2009
Grant McLean chalked up his fifth straight win in the annual Wellington marathon on Sunday, recording 2h 36m 55s.
It was also McLean's third marathon in eight weeks following on from Rotorua and Christchurch. Rowan Biggs was second in 2h 46m 8s with Blair van Stipriaan of Palmerston North third in 2h 49m 29s.
Lotty Turnidge won the women's marathon in 3h 0m 57s. Andrew Douglas of Scotland won the half marathon in a course record time of 1h 9m 15s. Kerry Faass of Christchurch was second in 1h 9m 35s and Rees Buck third in 1h 10m 10s. Maria Bentley from Palmerston North won the women's half in 1h 18m 11s, three minutes ahead of Vicki Humphries.
Gabrielle O'Rourke won the women's 10km in 38m 26s while Cameron Goldsmid was first in the men's 10km in 32m 50s. Kevin Ross coaches the first four to finish in the women's 10km, O'Rourke, Natalie Smith 38m 55s, Clare Miller 39m 5s and Erin Whitla 39m 21s.

INVERCARGILL - 27 June 2009
McIndoe Casket Cross Country
Ricky Gutsell (MM45-49) won the senior men's 9000m in 32m 54s at the Wyndham Racecourse on Saturday. Glen Ballam M19 was second in 33m 17s with Aaron Barclay also M19 third in 33m 50s.
Kathy MacLachlan (MW40-44) easily won the women's 6000m in 25m 24s from Fern Bellerby (G14) 26m 47s and Hannah Adamson (G14) 27m 17s.
Gore (Ricky Gutsell, Aaron Barclay, Nigel Marsh and Bevan Pearce) won the McIndoe Casket in the men's teams competition while Invercargill (Hannah Adamson, Debbie Telfer and Jenny Adamson) won the Murray Jones Trophy in the women's teams competition.
