Firearm presented at two persons

WELLINGTON

Police are investigating two separate incidents over night where a firearm was presented at members of the public.

The first incident occurred at 10:30pm on 1/7/09. Two occupants of a vehicle on Horner Street, Newtown presented a firearm at a male pedestrian walking on the street. They made threats before driving off towards Newtown.

The second incident occurred at 4:30 am 2/7/09. A male entered a Newtown boarding house armed with a firearm. An occupant in a common room at the time saw the male. The offender remained in the premises for approximately 3 -5 minutes before running from the house onto Horner Street, Newtown.

'Our enquiries indicate that these separate incidents are linked and it is likely that the same offender is involved', said Detective Sergeant Martin Todd of the Wellington CIB.
The vehicle driven by the suspects is described as:

  • „« Unknown registration
  • The male seen at the address is described as:
  • „« Male
  • „« 160 -170 cm tall
  • „« Medium build
  • „« Fit looking
  • „« European
  • „« Clean shaven
  • „« 27 -28 years old
  • „« No tattoos or piercing
  • Clothing:
  • „« Black Beanie
  • „« Black hoodie
  • „« Black jeans
  • „« Blue skivvy
  • „« Black gloves - probably woolen

Detective Sergeant Todd is appealing for sightings of the suspect vehicle in the Newtown area 1 - 2 July 2009.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who might know someone fitting the offender's description or who have any other information regarding these incidents.

Although isolated incidents, Police will be increasing patrols in the Newtown area with a view to identifying the offenders.
