New Zealand Cricket is confident BLACKCAPS spinner Jeetan Patel will be available for selection for next month’s tour to Sri Lanka.
Patel was this week released by his English County side Warwickshire after suffering a minor knee injury, and will return to New Zealand next week.
BLACKCAPS manager Dave Currie said Patel has been assessed in England this week by New Zealand team physio Kate Stalker, and he was confident the injury was not serious.
“Jeetan just needs a couple of weeks to recuperate after suffering a sprain to the medial collateral ligament of his right knee,” said Currie.
“He will rest the knee for a short while but will resume training within a couple of weeks and should be bowling in the nets soon thereafter. We are confident that he will be back to full fitness in time to be available for the Sri Lanka tour.”
Patel was due to finish his season with Warwickshire at the end of July, and the County side has now launched a search for a replacement overseas player.
