Wellington City Council is calling on local community groups to get their applications in for the next round of General Grants which closes on Friday 31 July.

Each year the Council allocates just over $1 million through General Grants to support not-for-profit groups with projects that contribute to the social, cultural, environmental or economic well-being of Wellington City. This will be the first of three General Grants rounds for this financial year and is for projects planned to start after 1 October 2009.

Applications for the Council's Sports Development Grants and the Built Heritage Fund also close at the end of July.

Sports Development Grants help local sports and recreation groups get professional advice and support to improve their strategic management. A total of $100,000 is available annually and the grants are allocated three times a year in line with the General Grant rounds.

The Built Heritage Incentive Fund encourages the conservation of Wellington's built heritage and helps to meet the additional costs associated with owning and caring for a heritage property.

The deadline for applications for all these grants rounds is 5.00pm on Friday 31 July.
