Pukekohe teenager Trent Woodcock saw his hopes of a world title crash within sight of the finish line at the UCI BMX World Championships in Adelaide today.

Woodcock crashed going into the last corner of the final of the 16 years boys content at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

He had dominated the competition, winning all his qualifying motos and won his semifinal impressively.

The Sunset Coast club rider jumped well from the start in the final but clipped wheels with an opponent when challenging for the lead coming into the final corner. He crashed heavily and injured his knee in the fall.

After eight medals including two world titles on the first day of the challenge class age group championship, there was only one further medal today.

That went to Rotorua’s David Mohi who won a bronze medal in the men’s 30 years and over championship, finishing in the top three in all qualifying motos and third in both the semifinal and final.

Tomorrow sees the BMX World Championships for junior men and women and elite men and women starting at 3.30pm NZ time.

Leading New Zealand day two results, BMX Challenge World Championships, Adelaide:

16 years boys: Daniel Franks (North Avon Club, Christchurch) 6th.

15 years girls: Nicole Wright (North Harbour) 6.

Men 30 plus: David Mohi (Rotorua) 3.
