Double world champion Sarah Walker returned back home with little time to take in the consequences of her performances in Adelaide at the weekend.

The 21 year old BMX rider is the first female to claim the double as elite world champion in both the BMX and Cruiser classes.

However she won’t get much time to savour her deeds. She has a couple of days off but will be back into full training later this week in preparations for next month’s second round of the UCI World Cup Supercross in South Africa. She finished fourth in the opening round in Denmark.

Meanwhile some of her age group team-mates picked up more medals in the Challenge division of the Cruiser championships on Sunday at Adelaide.

They picked up six medals in the age group classes, with a gold medal going to Gisborne’s Nicholas Fox in the 15-16 years class.

Rotorua rider David Mohi made it a double, winning a silver medal in the men’s 35 plus after a medal in the BMX championships on Friday.

There were two further silver medals won by Cambridge riders to Brian Ellis in the 45 years plus division and Genelle Willers, sister of Beijing Olympian Marc Willers.

Two bronze medals were won by the New Zealanders to Te Awamutu’s Rebecca Petch in the girls 12 years and under, to add to her medal won in the BMX class, and to Steven Schimanski (Hawera) in the men’s 30-34 years.

The leading New Zealand age group cruiser results were:

12 years and under, girls: Rebecca Petch (Te Awamutu) 3; boys: Codi Merito (Te Awamutu) 4.

13-14 years: Shannon Alexander (Christchurch) 4.

15-16 years: Nicholas Fox (Gisborne) 1.

25-29 years: Genelle Willers (Cambridge) 2.

30-34 years: Steven Schimanski (Hawera) 3.

40-44 years, men: Paul Luttrell (Hamilton) 4; Women: Libby Bublitz (Cambridge) 4, Diane Rankin (Sunset Coast, Waiuku) 5.

45 years plus, men: Brian Ellis (Cambridge) 2, Laurie Penney (Hamilton) 4; women: Sandra Bromwich (Cambridge) 5.
