The new members for the Transition Lake Taupo Tourism Advisory Board have been appointed by Taupo District Council.

Council has appointed five members to the Board: Louis de Bievre, Martin ‘Fritz’ Frohlke, Chris Johnston, Peter Blackwell and Seamus O’Sullivan (brief bio’s attached).

Mayor Rick Cooper said “these are challenging times for tourism and we called for people with passion and vision to help us to re-invent our tourism sector. Our call was answered with strong interest from throughout the country allowing us to appoint a top notch group of people who will rebuild an even stronger Regional Tourism Organisation.”

Councillor McElwee said, “The new Transition Board has a broad range of experience, strategic capability and tourism marketing nous. In addition to their professional skills, they genuinely care about the future direction of Taupo District’s visitor industry. It’s this kind of commitment that is needed in order to build New Zealand’s best Regional Tourism Organisation right here in the Taupo District.”

She said, “The main thrust of the Transition Board will be to consider what governance and operational structure will enable destination marketing to deliver the best value and results. Council have asked that they bring recommendations back to us by the end of the year and I for one am eager to hear what they prescribe.”
