The 2009 Laser European Championships for the Olympic class Laser sailors has just wrapped up in Lanskrona, Sweden.

New Zealand’s Michael Bullot from Auckland’s North Shore came through the standings on the final days to finish in 8th place in the 122-strong fleet. Lying 20th at the conclusion of the qualifying rounds, Bullot stepped up the pace with solid sailing and consistent results during the final three races to improve his position and finish well inside the top ten.

20 year old James Sandall from the Hawkes Bay, who was footing it near the top of the leaderboard concluded the regatta in a creditable 19th place. The young up and comer finished in 5th place at the ISAF Grade One Semaine Olympique Francaise, in France in April.

A total of ten races were sailed over the week of racing with the finals rounds being cut short of the full schedule of racing due to light winds in Sweden.

See the regatta website for more information and full results.
