Fed up for charity

It’s not often you get fed for charity. But that’s exactly what Auckland bar Sale St is offering.

In a new twist on the donate-a-tin-of-food theme, Sale St is offering a free second meal[1] from their bar menu for diners who pay for a meal and bring in a tin for the Salvation Army.

The offer runs until the end of August and is available for dinners on Mondays and lunch and dinner on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Sale St proprietor Luke Dallow’s a big fan of the Salvation Army.

“The Sallies do a fantastic job and they’re under a lot of pressure for supplies right now with winter in full swing and the country trying its best to struggle out of a recession.

“I just wanted to put together something that people could easily be part of that would help the Sallies right now. Let’s see how it goes but our customers are a pretty generous lot so I’m sure that, like our menu, it will be popular.”

The free meal cannot be a more expensive than the one paid for and the tin of food must be a standard 375g size. Sale St will hand on donated food in bulk to the Salvation Army.
