Triple X Motorsport team driver Daniel Gaunt has been named in the 2009 V8 Supercar enduro line-up with Stone Brothers Racing.

Having finished third overall in the 2008/09 New Zealand Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and winning the 2009 New Zealand Grand Prix, Gaunt has been racing a SBR supported Falcon in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series with McElrea Racing.

Growing from the close ties between each of the teams, 24-year-old Gaunt was given the nod to co-pilot the IRWIN Racing Falcon for the Phillip Island and Bathurst V8 Supercar enduro events. He will then return for the New Zealand summer race series in a Porsche 997 with Triple X Motorsport.

“It’s a great tie between each of the teams that has allowed Daniel to progress,” said Triple X Motorsport co-owner Mike Morton. “It shows from our team support at investing in young talent we can mutually benefit – we now have a stepping stone from a Triple X Porsche 997 into a V8 Supercar. When Daniel has completed this year’s Fujitsu V8 Supercar series and SBR enduro drive, he’ll be championship ready for the New Zealand Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge season with Triple X.”

Announced by SBR team principal Ross Stone, Gaunt will join fellow Kiwi’s John McIntyre and team regular Shane Van Gisbergen, with team-mate Alex Davison the only non-New Zealand driver in the team.

Gaunt will contest the Queensland round of the Fujitsu series (21-23 August) before the L&H 500 at Phillip Island (11-13 September) and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 (8-11 October). His New Zealand season with the Triple X Motorsport team starts 6 November at Pukekohe.
