Mayor Rick Cooper wishes to thank all the Taupo businesses involved in raising over $1,300 for last weekends ‘Big Night In’ telethon event.

The ‘Taupo Adventure’ prize package included sky diving, jet boating, hot pools, fine dining and accommodation. The prize was donated by Mayor Rick and sold in the ‘Sella Big Night In Auction’ raising $1,366 for children’s charity KidsCan.

“Once again Taupo businesses rose to the occasion with their generosity and they put this together in a very short timeframe” said Mayor Cooper. “I just want to personally express my gratitude for their support and generosity.”

The businesses that donated were: Taupo Tandem Skydiving, Suncourt Hotel, De Bretts Spa Resort, Chris Jolly Outdoors, Huka Jets, Replete Cafe, Plateau Bar and Restaurant, and Taupo District Council.

The Big Night In was the first telethon event held in New Zealand in over 15 years, and aired on TV3 from Saturday August 8 through to Sunday August 9, and raised almost $2m. KidsCan charitable trust provides shoes, raincoats and lunches for Kiwi kids living in poverty.
