Brent Newdick finished a creditable 23rd with a fresh personal best score of 7915 points in the decathlon at the World Athletic Championships in Berlin.

Newdick's performances were: 100m 11.11s, long jump 7.42m pb, shot put 14.35m, high jump 1.99m equals pb, 400m 50.10s, 110m hurdles 14.82s, discus throw 43.60m, pole vault 4.80m equals pb, javelin throw 51.52m, 1500m 4m 30.57s pb.

Trey Hardee of USA won with 8790 points, from Leonel Suarez of Cuba 8640 and Aleksandr Pogorelov of Russia 8528.
