Brent Newdick started day two of competition in the decathlon at the World Athletic Championships in Berlin with a 14.82s (-0.1) clocking in the 110m hurdles.
This was just 0.44s outside his personal best set in Kladno in June.
Newdick scored 871 points taking his total to 4976, placing him 21st out of 34 remaining in the event.

Discus Throw
In the discus throw Newdick's best throw of 43.60m improved him one place in the overall placings to 20th. Newdick's series was 42.01m, 41.34m and 43.60m. 
He was allocated 738 points for his effort which was the 14th best out of 34. His total points now stand at 5714. Trey Hardee of USA leads the competition with 6334 from Oleksiy Kasyanov of Ukraine 6275 and Aleksandr Pogorelov of Russia 6163.

Pole Vault
Newdick opened at 4.30m, passed at 4.40m, cleared at first attempt at 4.50m and 4.60m. He was over 4.70m on his second attempt and equalled his personal best of 4.80m on his third attempt. Newdick then attempted 4.90m, missing at his three attempts.
For his 4.80m Newdick received 849 points for a total of 6563 for 19th place. Trey Hardee of USA who cleared 5.20m leads the competition with 7306 points.

Javelin Throw
Newdick had just one attempt in the javelin throw, 51.52m for 611 points and a total of 7174 for 22 position. His javelin was just over six metres under his personal best, however he was carrying a bit of an arm strain. Hardee had a throw of 68m to bring his leading total to 8165.

1500m
Newdick ran a personal best 1500m of 4m 30.57s for 741 points and a new personal best total of 7915 for 23rd placing overall. This added 41 points to his previous best set in Beograd in July.
