Stuart Farquhar finished 14th overall in the javelin throw with his third attempt in the qualifying rounds of 78.53m.

The qualification standard for the final was 82.00m or at least best 12 to qualify.

Farquhar's first round was 72.84m and the second round thrown in the rain was 74.54m.

The third round was delayed for an hour due to torrential rain that was falling at the time.

Farquhar was just 16cm short of the 12th place qualifier for the final.

The twice Olympian said that he put all his efforts into the final throw.

"I still knew there was more there, I still didn't connect it well, I went to the right but I was a bit guttered when I saw it leave my hand," he said.

Farquhar said it was interesting how they were held for an hour.

"I had a bit of a break, I think I changed everything, refocussed and basically settled myself out."

The lead up to the championships has been one of development for Farquhar.

"I've had a big development year, like I haven't really done too many competitions, but spent a lot of time trying to fix a lot of my technique and learn heaps of new things.

"It's been a successful time and I'm a bit guttered at the end of it, I had hoped to make the final and get some points," he said.
