Organisers of this year's Gallagher Great Race are on the lookout for a rowing coxswain to steer the Boat Race winning Oxford crew when they take on Waikato University in the Gallagher Great Race on September 27th.

The crew's cox - Colin Groshong - was forced to pull out of the trip due to other commitments - and organisers have amended the rules to allow and experienced New Zealand cox the chance to take control of what could be one of the most powerful foreign crews ever to boat in New Zealand.

"We do need to find a cox for the Oxford crew and our preference would be for someone from New Zealand who is experienced and prepared to take up the challenge of coxing the crew on what is an incredibly demanding river," explained Gallagher Great Race organiser Rob Hammil.

"It would be great to hear from anyone with experience of that stretch of the Waikato who might have a few days spare to go out with the crew in the build up to the event as well as coxing them in the big race itself. The job "

The Oxford crew will include Kiwi Olympic bronze medallist and former world champion George Bridgewater in what could well be his last competitive appearance on home water.

Bridgewater will be joined by fellow Boat Race winners Alex Hearne, Michal Plotkowiak and Colin Smith and is likely to be part of one of the biggest crews ever to race in the Gallagher Great Race. “That’s looking like a distinct possibility,” added Hammil.
