Disabilities Interschool next week
Tuesday, September 15 will see 50 Athletes with Disabilities meet at the Action Indoor Sports Arena on Tremaine Avenue to compete in the first ever Manawatu Athletes with Disabilities Interschool.
The day is the result of a combined effort between Sport Manawatu, Special Olympics, Sport Opportunity and the Halberg Trust who recognised the lack of opportunities Athletes with Disabilities receive to represent their school in interschool fixtures.
“This is the first of what we hope will become an annual event,” says Sport Manawatu’s secondary school sport director Hayden Marshall.
“The response and support from the competing schools and Action Indoor Sports suggest that this event will not only be around for years to come, but will go from strength to strength.”
Athletes will come from as far away as Dannevirke College to compete in Football, Boccia and Hockey over the course of the day. Competition starts at 10am and will conclude with a prize giving ceremony at 1:30pm.
